Troubleshooting
* This is a universal kit. New controller may not fit in stock location and physical size may be different.
I cannot get my headlight to turn on:
Long press the UP arrow to turn the lights on and off.
Pedal assist is not working properly:
- If after adjusting the settings your pedal assist still does not work, check the following cables to ensure they are fully plugged in, check the pedal assist sensor connection. Make there is no bent or pins, and it is fully seated together:
- Pedal assist connector (yellow 3 pin coming from sensor)
- Motor Cable
- Main wiring harness (the one typically ran through the frame). Make sure there is NO bent pins
- If all the connections are good and no damage done to the pins or connectors, try changing the C1 setting to 2.
- If it still does not function, please check to make sure the motor works with throttle to eliminate a different type of problem. If throttle works but the pedal assist does not, the next step would be a different pedal assist sensor, or the stock motor controller and display. This should narrow down where the problem is occurring.
“Motor position sensor fault” or “Motor or controller short circuit fault!”:
In nearly all cases of receiving this error, the motor cable is not fully seated. Please note that the arrows can sometimes be up to 1/8th turn off. The cable should be firmly seated with the lines around the circumference of each half of the plug nearly flush. Wiggle back and forth on both cables and push firmly together.
I have a 48v battery, but it says 53v (or similar):
This is perfectly normal. A 48v battery when fully charged will be about 54 volts.
My battery voltage is over 48v, but the gauge reads empty:
Take the bike for a ride! Depending on settings it may be waiting for calibration. A few seconds of riding should fix this. If the problem persists, check the main harness connection coming from the controller through the frame and up to the handlebars. Check for any bent pins. A single bent pin will cause issues.
My speed does not read correctly, it jumps up to 49mph when coasting (and/or reads 0):
Please verify your P2 setting. An incorrect setting here will cause the wrong speed to be displayed when coasting. Also make sure you have the correct wheel dimension (DIM). The dimension is the overall tire diameter, not just the rim size. P2 = 5 for stock motor. P2 = 6 for upgraded Bafang 750W motor.
RadCity and RadWagon (direct drive motor):
Note that some settings may need to be changed for proper operation. P1 is determined by the number of magnets or poles in the motor as well as the gear reduction. As the RadCity and older RadWagon have a direct drive motor, use the setting 46 for P1. P2 may also require a change for a correct speed reading.
Motor or system shuts down while riding:
Adjust your C5 setting to a lower current output. Settings 0-2 are different take off speeds followed by max power. 3 is the lowest current output and 10 is the highest. Take the bike for a spin and adjust the current output till you find a happy medium the controller and motor are happy with. For stock motors, we recommend 5 - 7 for C5.

Rad Runner 1
Got my Power up grade kit . installed it last night .work like a champ . was able to hit 27.4 miles per hour. I put a 750w bafang motor on it to. had to put a 7 speed sprocket on it to make it work. because chain did not line up waiting on a 7 speed derailleur and shifter .had to spread the frame about 1/4 inch. so motor would drop in place. but ever thing works like it should. Thank you Bolton bike for your help and all your videos you have put out . kudos to all of you at Bolton bike.

A bit late, but worth the wait
Ordered for my frankenrunner. Arrived a couple weeks later than expected, but I didn't get to installing for another couple weeks after that, so we're even, ha ha! Anyway, controller is a bit bigger than stock but seems to fit very well with no drilling, grinding, etc. All the plugs match and the cables aren't too long or too short. The display is nice, much better than the "deluxe" Rad one, ok in the dark, happy to see volts too. Performance like others have said, top speed better by only 1.5-2mph, but torque is much improved. Worth it.

Necessity!
I have purchased 2 of these kits, one for a 2019 Radrover with 2 - 52v batteries in parallel and 2020 Radrover Stepthru with standard 48v Rad battery. Both bikes perform beautifully. The Stepthru is using the stock motor while the Rover has the new motor. You gotta have this upgrade. It also has cruise control, what?

2019 Rad Mini
I was a little worried if everything would hook up, and it did! The main wire that goes to the front, on the stock controller comes out the top. The new controller has it out the bottom. This made things almost too short. When I hooked up the main wire back in its original place, the wire to the motor was a little too short. So I hooked the motor, battery and other wires up. Moved the controller as far up the post as I could and taped the controller to the post. Than cut all zip ties in the front and got another inch or two and it hooked up. Still have slack enough in wires to turn wheel. I left the controller just taped up to the post to do all test rides, worked good. As of now I just have it zip tied to the post , and that works. If it does not, than I will bolt it on. There is a delay in the pedal assist. Not as good as the stock. It takes sometimes a full crank of the pedals before it kicks in. Tried different setting ,still can not get it to work as smooth as the stock. Maybe I will get it better. If not ,I just use the throttle to get it going and it kicks right in. Works good if bike is moving. Just from dead stop not quite right. So why give 5 stars? The take off on a mini with the small tries, is great! I have the 1000 watt FoxBat bike, and this I think will beat it off the line. Which makes it good for town traffic, when you pull out from a stop sign. Dan

RadRunner Plus
I couldn’t imagine riding this bike without the upgrade. I live in an area with huge hills and mountains. My Girlfriend uses this bike, I have a SUPER73 S2. She does better on hills than my S2. I do burn her on flats and down hills. She’s always chugging along on the hills with no issue. 500ft-1000ft elevation changes on every ride. It took some tinkering to make it fit. This is a must have.

Install review
Hi all, I just installed my RadPower Upgrade kit on my bike. I've watched other YouTube videos before this kit came in and they all had me worried on how to attach the controller to my bike. This kit now has everything you would need to install it, no issues, no problems. The only thing I would warn you about is on my 2019 Rad Rover is that one of the cables is inside the down tube. You need to turn the front wheel to the right so you can get it out. I didn't do that and the cable separated from the connection inside the tube. I had to fish the cable back down the tube, which only took a few minutes to fix. As I finish this I'm off for a bike ride. From everything I see it going to be a fun day. mgm

Updated review
My previous review was for P2 setting, and other issues for installation without the upgraded motor. Thanks to the response, I found P2 should be set to 1 not 5 to work properly. Still only a 4 rating due to poor instructions from the OEM/factory, no micro SD card to do field firmware updates but certainly 5 stars for Bolton customer service!

Now that's what I'm talking about!
I ordered this upgrade kit for my 2016 RadRover back in June. While it took far longer than expected to arrive, I can now say that it was worth the wait! I live in a hilly neighborhood of Seattle and am able to tackle our steepest hills with no issue - including one that finishes with a 22% gradient! A few things to note: 1) My 2016 RadRover didn't ship with a tail light, so I bought one from Amazon along with a higo adapter cable that plugs into the cable from the controller. It took a few minutes to reverse-engineer which pin was which, but I now have a functional tail light and brake light. 2) The KT-LCD8H display was running a newer firmware than what is shown in the Bolton YouTube videos. A quick email to Kyle confirmed that this was expected. 3) The config settings shown in Kyle's video weren't entirely correct for my bike. I fiddled around with this a bit, but my speedometer was showing wildly inaccurate speeds. Kyle provided a recommendation (change P2 to 5) that fixed my issue and everything is working perfectly. I'm even able to use the built-in cruise control feature! 4) Installation was easy and the kit included everything that I needed to attach the controller to my frame. I highly recommend this kit and the Bolton hydraulic brake upgrades to other RadRover owners. -Jamie

RadCity 4
Working great on 2020 Rad City! Rode 25 miles last Sunday and it didn’t skip a beat. Everything wired up perfectly. Controller fit in factory location. I don’t have my settings in front of me but I will try to update this review with them when I have a chance!
