Plug and play for 2016-2018 Rover bikes. Please note that the controller has a tail light plug that will not be used. We do not recommend upgraded lights as it can burn up the headlight circuit.
Plug and play for 2019-2021 Rover models. (Up to Rover 5) (Not compatible with Rover 6) Will only work with stock 200 lumen headlight, will not work with the 500 Lumen headlights. THE 500 will burn up your controller.
Mini - Although also typically plug and play for 2018 and prior, this controller is substantially larger than stock and will not fit inside the frame or stock mounting locations. May have a different battery plug. Please check your bike and photos before ordering.

How to Program:
The LCD screen has a handlebar mounted switch with three buttons, UP, DOWN, and a center Power button. 1. Start with battery and handlebar switch on. The LCD will be off.
2. Turn on LCD by pressing and holding POWER button. Holding the UP button will turn on the backlight if needed.
3. Within 5 seconds of turning LCD on, press and hold BOTH UP, and DOWN buttons for a few seconds to enter the settings mode.
Brief explanations are as follows.
P1 Motor Characteristic Parameter Setting Mode (100, 46 for direct drive motors on the Radcity or some Radwagon models)
P2 Wheel Speed Pulse Signal Setting Mode (5, 6 for upgraded 750w motors)
P3 Power Assist Control Mode (1)
P4 Handlebar Startup Mode (0)
P5 Power Monitoring Mode (15)
C1 Power Assist Sensor and Parameter Selection Mode (3)

Troubleshooting
* This is a universal kit. New controller may not fit in stock location and physical size may be different.
I cannot get my headlight to turn on:
Long press the UP arrow to turn the lights on and off.
Pedal assist is not working properly:
- If after adjusting the settings your pedal assist still does not work, check the following cables to ensure they are fully plugged in, check the pedal assist sensor connection. Make there is no bent or pins, and it is fully seated together:
- Pedal assist connector (yellow 3 pin coming from sensor)
- Motor Cable
- Main wiring harness (the one typically ran through the frame). Make sure there is NO bent pins
- If all the connections are good and no damage done to the pins or connectors, try changing the C1 setting to 2.
- If it still does not function, please check to make sure the motor works with throttle to eliminate a different type of problem. If throttle works but the pedal assist does not, the next step would be a different pedal assist sensor, or the stock motor controller and display. This should narrow down where the problem is occurring.
“Motor position sensor fault” or “Motor or controller short circuit fault!”:
In nearly all cases of receiving this error, the motor cable is not fully seated. Please note that the arrows can sometimes be up to 1/8th turn off. The cable should be firmly seated with the lines around the circumference of each half of the plug nearly flush. Wiggle back and forth on both cables and push firmly together.
I have a 48v battery, but it says 53v (or similar):
This is perfectly normal. A 48v battery when fully charged will be about 54 volts.
My battery voltage is over 48v, but the gauge reads empty:
Take the bike for a ride! Depending on settings it may be waiting for calibration. A few seconds of riding should fix this. If the problem persists, check the main harness connection coming from the controller through the frame and up to the handlebars. Check for any bent pins. A single bent pin will cause issues.
My speed does not read correctly, it jumps up to 49mph when coasting (and/or reads 0):
Please verify your P2 setting. An incorrect setting here will cause the wrong speed to be displayed when coasting. Also make sure you have the correct wheel dimension (DIM). The dimension is the overall tire diameter, not just the rim size. P2 = 5 for stock motor. P2 = 6 for upgraded Bafang 750W motor.
RadCity and RadWagon (direct drive motor):
Note that some settings may need to be changed for proper operation. P1 is determined by the number of magnets or poles in the motor as well as the gear reduction. As the RadCity and older RadWagon have a direct drive motor, use the setting 46 for P1. P2 may also require a change for a correct speed reading.
Motor or system shuts down while riding:
Adjust your C5 setting to a lower current output. Settings 0-2 are different take off speeds followed by max power. 3 is the lowest current output and 10 is the highest. Take the bike for a spin and adjust the current output till you find a happy medium the controller and motor are happy with. For stock motors, we recommend 5 - 7 for C5.

Worth the wait!
Huge power and performance increase. Installed on a Rad Runner 1 with a 500w motor. Day 1, full power from a stop - the front tire can / did lift off the ground. Throttle controls are more sensitive, but just takes some getting used to. Driving in the city has significantly become more enjoyable, knowing I'm able to accelerate in traffic and keep up if needed (especially on narrow roads or construction areas) I would like to see a manual with instructions for each setting or a pdf for offline use in addition to the YouTube video Kyle has made.

Definitely an improvement on my 2021Rad Rover 5.
I installed this yesterday (9/10/21) I thought I saw where someone installed this in an hour or something like that but it was longer than that for me and I didn’t have any issues doing it. I followed the directions to the letter which by the way are easy. It takes time to do it right the first time. Anyway it’s just as advertised. More torque. I can’t wait to see how it does on a hill. I also want to see how much more battery it uses. When I powered up to do the codes the display wouldn’t come on so I thought the terminal to the motor must not be in all of the way in so I pushed on it again and I pushed hard or I thought I did. Then the display flashed but didn’t stay on so I knew I was on the right path so I pushed on it again and this time I felt a very slight movement. Works now. Like Kyle said in the video push hard and he wasn’t kidding. Glad I got this. 750 watt motor upgrade next. BTW… I did the hydraulic calipers a couple of days ago and I definitely think they are worth it as well.

Works great on 2020 Radrover 5
Simple install, no problems. I used the original Rad controller brackets with 2" 8-32 machine screws plus nyloc nuts from home depot. The one issue I'm having is a long lag between the start of peddling and the motor kicking in. I'm assuming it's a settings issue and haven't played around with the parameters yet. As everyone else is saying here, big power upgrade. My riding is mostly hilly streets and where 3rd gear and peddling was necessary before, now I can climb the same hills in 6 or 7th gear with the same or less peddling force. Your battery range will go down but this is to expected. Good bang for the buck.

A must for the radrunner 1
The stock single speed radrunner is a heavy turd, unless you weigh 100 pounds or have super strong legs it struggles up most hills with the single speed gearing. This kit is a game changer, turns it into an electric scooter that can keep up with traffic, power up hills. Battery range is terrible but it's worth it for the speed and power. Install manual could be better, especially the instructions on how to reprogram the computer.

A great upgrade, but be cautious around puddles!
I bought this for my Radrunner 1 to avoid having to get a radrunner plus for that additional speed without having to get another bike or lose out on the cargo loadout I have. Here's a key thing I want to warn you potential buyers about though, this controller is NOT waterproof. Water Resistant, but not as waterproof as the stock controller. Ran a few big puddles one early morning on my way to work, and the throttle started to malfunction. I managed to pull over to a dry area, and wipe things off and it was as good as new, but be extremely careful around any bodies of water. You can hit puddles with the stock controller fine, but this one is a little more sensitive. Secondly, the Skid Plate that comes with the runner will not fit with the controller upgrade. I tried but the holes don't align at all, either by the 4 on the controller or the two that hold it in place. So make sure to either modify it, or make one yourself, otherwise you will have to go without. For the best settings, refer to this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTRs7c9Kc7U, it also tells you what each setting does in depth. If you're willing to take the risks, this upgrade is well worth it, just take care to watch out for big puddles of water.

Damn!
Installed on my RadMini and Holy Horses Batman, my bike climbs hills like they were hardly there. Nice quick take off too! I'm seeing 1.2kW going to the motor at times. From the stock 17A to this 35A output is almost a doubling of the power. You won't go much faster, but you'll get there quicker. Think of it like a turbocharger. A much more enjoyable ride. This 60 year old fat man is all over the place now with a huge grin on my face. Thank you Bolton for making this kit available. Very much a must have for the RadMini or RadRunner. My RadMini non-step-through is a 2021 model and the supplied connectors fit perfectly. I was able to install the controller in the same place as the old one using black outdoor rated zip ties.

I ordert the Kit to Germany. After I installed the kit it worked scheiße gut. Just it don’t show my speed how fast I go? I would also like a adjustment for German rules 250watt 25kmH speed And turn off the gas control. so in case if my wife ride she don’t get trouble with the police. Thanks for this product

Very good Upgrade
I have a 2017 RadRover and upgraded the controller a year ago. One of the best money I spent and made a great change to the bike. I normally run on set assistant of 1 and more than handles the riding I do. It seems the battery holds up well and pulls up the hills satisfactorily. If I change the assist to level 3 I'm good to go with the assistance on a hill. Doing some research, I would like to upgrade to a 52-volt battery. I'm keeping my old 48-volt battery but keeping the new one onboard to increase my distance. I normally can go 20 to 25 miles on a normally charged battery. My goal is to increase at least 50 miles with one battery at a time connected. I will not hook both batteries in a parallel circuit for I read some comments it may create some problems even if both batteries are 48 volts. This upgrade controller is advertised to use either 48 volts or 52 volts which allows me to go 52-volt battery. This is one of my decisions I chose this controller. You will not be disappointed with this controller. I highly recommend this product if you can get one due to backorder.

Great acceleration, easy install
I purchased this kit for my Radrunner Plus and I am now accelerating to 20mph in about 6 seconds instead of the stock 15 seconds. My top speed has not changed, however I have peaked at 1650 watts to the motor on hills. Way more torque than stock for hills. One bit of advise for any future buyers though. When using the two screws to mount the display to the bracket, use some blue locktite. After 1000 miles they had backed all the way out due to vibration. Otherwise this is a terrific upgrade and well worth the cost. I got lucky and my unit was shipped right away, it's in high demand but it is worth the wait
