Hi guys already had the 35 amp controller but I like to run in the 700 to 900 w range for the hillier areas here in Nothumberland UK and it was just a matter of time before the original 500w motor got cooked. This upgrade gives me the confidence to run that power when needed a have plenty in reserve if it’s ever needed It’s well worth having the special tools to hand and getting all your ducks in a line before starting the work plenty of videos on the subject to pick the best method to complete. My Radrhino now has the pulling power of a freight train. Well done Area 13.

Had a bad motor. Long story short , I bought full kit from are 13, I had issues and I emailed them and the owner himself responded to my request and troubleshoot for a bit and was extremely patient and ultimately help me replace it, they are honestly good growing company . I wish them the best

    Increased Top...

Bought this to replace the stock motor on my RadMini. I had previously done the controller upgrade package and wanted a bit more top speed since either the stock Rad motor has a built in limiter or the windings are different. I was able to hit 22-23 on the stock motor. After installing this upgrade motor my top speed is now 27-28. Torque seems to be the same which is expected. Overall very pleased. Make sure you order a new gear cassette because it’s next to impossible to remove the stock one from the rad motor. Also, order one with a smaller 7th gear because you will want that gearing change when your top speed increases. They are cheap, $30 on amazon.

    Some Considerations

Posted by Doug on Feb 25th 2023

I recommend this motor and give it 5 stars. If you are thinking about getting this motor for your Rover then here are a couple of considerations. 1st, if you are still running the stock freewheel on your Rover I recommend not trying to reuse it at this time. However, in order to gain access to the six fasteners being obstructed by the 1st gear (Granny Gear) of the freewheel, you will need to disassemble the freewheel instead of trying to unscrew the entire assembly from the housing. Save that as a separate project and you will save yourself a lot of grief. Once you have the new motor dropped into the old housing with the new flange from the new housing that is threaded to accept a freewheel/ cassette, lubricate/ grease these threads and screw on the new freewheel you have chosen tightening by hand only. I was unable to get the stock freewheel removed and broke 2 of Rad's custom tools trying. I ended up cutting (Dremel) and prying (large flathead screwdriver) until I got past the ball bearings and what remained was able to provide resistance in the CCW direction. Then an 18-inch pipe wrench allowed me to finally unscrew what was left. 2nd, don't try to use the stock controller and this upgraded motor unless you plan on using throttle only. I tried while I was waiting for the taillight controller upgrade to become available. I ended up buying the original version as I was tired of waiting. With this new motor, I had change P2 to 6 to get rid of some speedometer issues.
